Custom Artwork!

Well, hello there!
If you stumbled here it is because you are interested in a commissioned artwork!
Below the different types of custom work and specific questions for you to answer!

Sculpture on Objects

Maybe you have an object that you are attached too but that isn’t it its best shape anymore, it might even be broken. Or is is a reminder of another era or time?
Maybe it’s simply your CD player that you would take everywhere as a teen and that is now in the back on a drawer.I can rework your object into an artwork! That means of course sending me your object so I can grow my sculptures on top, you can pick your favorite colors and shapes or you can let me decide.

Please answer the questions below so I can give you an accurate cost and time frame.
1 – What is your object? Please provide size, weigh and (at least) two pictures, one from top and one from the side.
2 – What are your favorite colors? Please pick at least 2 and at most 5.
3 – Where do you live? (this is important for shipping costs estimates, especially if your object is bulky)
4 – Do you have a deadline?

Miniature Food

I have worked solely on sculpting hyperrealistic replicas of miniature food in 1:12 scale (common dollhouse scale) during 8 years and I have not lost that ability. I don’t work on it in my current artistic research, but I’d be happy to create a replica of your favorite food, wedding cake or any of that sort.

Please answer the questions below so I can give you an accurate cost and time frame.
1 – What food do you want in miniature?
2 – Do you want it in 1:12 scale or another scale?
3 – Do you have a deadline?

Paintings & Sculptures

I would also be happy to work on a painting, watercolor or other sculpture.
Please note that I do not offer portraits of human, but I certainly can make a portrait of your pet.

Please answer the questions below so I can give you an accurate cost and time frame.
1 – What do you want me to paint or sculpt?
2 – What approximate size do you want the painting or sculpture?
3 – Do you have a deadline?

I ask for a non refundable 50% deposit of the artwork, the balance is paid before shipping.

I Can : Anxiety

450€
_________
Artwork / Oeuvre d’Art : I Can : Anxiety
Sculpture, 2017
Tin Can, Polymer clay / boîte de conserve, pâte polymère
22 H x 11 W x 11 cm

This sculpture is about anxiety and the feeling of breathlessness. It is about the difficulty of breathing and the sensation of suffocating. A spiraling growth of blue mushrooms is being strangled by metallic wire.

Part of the ongoing series “I Can”, where I systematically grow erratic and surrealistic natural shapes onto tin cans. The dialogue between each can and growth expresses a different emotion, mood or state of the mind. They are personal and talk about myself, putting into shape what I feel or go through. They are very intuitive work where I let my hands and the clay decide where to go after a rough sketch of the emotion I want to materialize.

Art Prints

You can find art prints of my artwork on two print on demand shops, society6 and redbubble.
They handle everything and have good customer service.

Print on Demand

I chose to offer open edition prints through print on demand shops for different reasons.
For one, there is no stock, which means no inventory for one, but also no loss nor wasted materials.
Secondly,  you can ask me for any print and I will add the picture in my shops.
That sculpture you wanted but that is sold? That watercolor painting that someone grabbed? Those miniature donuts that I stopped making?
All can easily made available through a print, so don’t hesitate to ask.

Redbubble

Redbubble offers more variations on prints, from art print on 100% cotton paper to photographic prints and posters.
Since I have my redbubble shop since 2015, there is also plenty of miniature food prints to find.

Society6

Society6 is similar to redbubble, but is more limited in the variations of art prints. They have sensibly the same products, however have more options in the bag department, with backpacks and dufflebags.

A thrifted cheese grate on which grinning plants are growing. Instead of the traditional use of grating cheese, it is used as a support for plants who are grinning (they say cheese!) at something, maybe the surveillance camera, another artwork made just before.

Eyed plants are popping out of a camera where the lens usually goes. Roles are inverted, plants are watching, observing humans and not the other way around.
It also loosely questions the concept of surveillance within our own societies under the pretense of safety.

in Trees we Trust, Sculpture, 2017

SOLD
_________
Artwork / Oeuvre d’Art : In Trees we Trust / On A Confiance dans les Arbres
Sculpture, 2017
Mixed Media on Tin Can / Médias Mixtes sur Boîte de Conserve
22 H x 11 W x 10 cm

Around a tin can, a growing tree surrounded by vibrant red mushrooms is mutating into a human hand.
Trees have a fascinating intelligence. They communicate through their roots and with the help of mushrooms. They are capable of helping each other out, sharing ressources but also warnings of threats.
They do communicate through electrical signals, but also olfactive and auditive ones.
Their roots will grow towards a river because of the particular sounds it makes, and they will create certain poisons when eaten by predators or attract predators to certain pests they want to get rid of.

Artwork / Oeuvre d’Art : I Can : Energy (Yellow)
Sculpture, 2017
Mixed Media on Tin Can / Médias Mixtes sur Boîte de Conserve
14 H x 8,5 W x 17 cm

This sculpture is about bursting energy, exploding in all directions. Yet to make the best use of that energy, it is key to give it some direction.

Part of the ongoing series “I Can”, where I systematically grow erratic and surrealistic natural shapes onto tin cans. The dialogue between each can and growth expresses a different emotion, mood or state of the mind. They are personal and talk about myself, putting into shape what I feel or go through. I Can : Doubt, Sculpture, 2017

EXHIBITED at “Monochrome”, Art Number 23
From Thursday 15th of March to Tuesday 20th of March.
_________
Artwork / Oeuvre d’Art : I Can : Doubt (White)
Sculpture, 2017
Mixed Media on Tin Can / Médias Mixtes sur Boîte de Conserve
17 H x 8,5 W x 12 cm

“Doubt” is composed of densely growing white mushrooms that are being covered in white goop. The white goop is slightly shimmery.
The added shimmery goop is what makes the artwork interesting, but it is also what is ruining it in a way, like doubt that can be very beneficial to improve ones work but that can also paralyze and destroy.

Part of the ongoing series “I Can”, where I systematically grow erratic and surrealistic natural shapes onto tin cans. The dialogue between each can and growth expresses a different emotion, mood or state of the mind. They are personal and talk about myself, putting into shape what I feel or go through. They are very intuitive work whereI let my hands and the clay decide where to go after a rough sketch of the emotion I want to materialize.

Artwork / Oeuvre d’Art : I Can : Hunger (blue)
Sculpture, 2017
Mixed Media on Tin Can / Médias Mixtes sur Boîte de Conserve
11 H x 10 W cm

Crystals around a tin can that is a wide open mouth. Visual expression of the impossible hunger that can inhabit one person never to be completely satisfied with one’s life or work, to always seek more and go further in life.

Part of the ongoing series “I Can”, where I systematically grow erratic and surrealistic natural shapes onto tin cans. The dialogue between each can and growth expresses a different emotion, mood or state of the mind. They are personal and talk about myself, putting into shape what I feel or go through. Artwork / Oeuvre d’Art : I Can : Passion (Red)
Sculpture, 2017
Mixed Media on Tin Can / Médias Mixtes sur Boîte de Conserve
15 H x 8,5 W x 13 cm

A bright diamond shape growth of mushroom and what could be an anemone. Tactile and enchanting, almost sexual, about the passion that can grow so steadily and strong. Not just for another human being, but also for an occupation, art form or experiences.

Part of the ongoing series “I Can”, where I systematically grow erratic and surrealistic natural shapes onto tin cans. The dialogue between each can and growth expresses a different emotion, mood or state of the mind. They are personal and talk about myself, putting into shape what I feel or go through. _________
Artwork / Oeuvre d’Art : I Can : Green
Sculpture, 2017
Mixed Media on Tin Can / Médias Mixtes sur Boîte de Conserve
12 H x 8,5 W cm

Here, I recycled so-called canes of miniature fruit and candy from my previous life as a hyperrealistic miniature food sculptor. I recycle my own work and trash into something new, into a new me.

Part of the ongoing series “I Can”, where I systematically grow erratic and surrealistic natural shapes onto tin cans. The dialogue between each can and growth expresses a different emotion, mood or state of the mind. They are personal and talk about myself, putting into shape what I feel or go through. Candi(e)d Watch, 2017

500 €
_________
Artwork / Oeuvre d’Art : Candi(e)d Watch
Sculpture, 2017
Tin can, polymer clay, acrylics, pastels / Boîte de conserve, pâte polymère, acrylique, pastels
14 H x 12 W x 19 cm (5,5 H x 4,7 W x 7,5 inches)

This piece has been selected among hundreds and exhibited at the Surreal Salon 10, at Baton Rouge Gallery, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, USA.

Among candy colored plants, mushrooms and crystals, eyed daisies and succulents are growing on a tin can, looking at the current world. One can only imagine what they could think, growing on humanity’s waste. There are most certainly judgmental and are waiting to see if humans will bury themselves under their own garbage or not. Time will tell, and they will grow and watch.

Kiss Me is a surrealistic growth of flora onto a tin can.
It is suggesting that trash won’t be part of the future, either because we finally dealt with it, or simply because we’re not there anymore.
Maybe the “kiss me” is also an insult. Who knows what’s going on in my head and subconscious anyway. Beats me.

Growing plants and fungi from a purple liquid coming out of a glass jar. Opposing a human made object and a vibrant biodiversity.
Nature is taking over. Earth might loose a big chunk of biodiversity, but it’ll be fine, humans just might not see it.

From a distance, an abstract painting contrasting white with magenta, from close a diverse and detailed nature, as soiled by a capricious child.
The magenta is a metaphor of the destructive human gesture towards the environment, yet it is also the only color, as if the gesture could have been more respectful.
An opposition between nature’s biodiversity and human activities.

I opposed a very vibrant, detailed sculptural growth of various plants, fungus, bugs and crystals representing lush biodiversity and a very abstract and clean turquoise paint. I did cut the growth so to create a perfect triangle, not just for the eyes, but also to represent how humans cut through nature without so much as a second thought.

Cow’cinnelle, Cow/Ladybug, Sculpture, 2017

Indonesian Deforestation, Artwork 2016-2017

The Indonesian Rainforests have experienced a loss of 50% in just 50 years, mainly due to unsustainable palm oil agriculture and corruption. I transcripted this visually in cutting the artwork in two, one part lush vibrant rainforest, the other part destroyed and dominate by humanity.
Use palmoilinvestigations.org to avoid unsustainable palm oil.

“Controlled Anger” is about the inside fight between the overwhelming anger that washes over you in a powerful destructive way and the rational thoughts that slowly grow around it, transforming it into something much more powerful and constructive.

Desertification, Artwork 2017

“Desertification”
One of the causes of human activities (notably agriculture) and climate change is desertification of various types of environment, even forests. This is the opposition of the arid land and it’s dry patterns to a rich and colorful biodiversity.

Wachstum

A city that made a great impression on me.
The colors I chose are the ones I’ve seen and loved on most traditional buildings. Red, blue, green and gold.
The lively art scene I experienced there (District of Art 798), but also the touching roughness of the people are things I tried to express in this artwork as well.
Here the sculpted elements represent the abundant creativity, the red lines the joie de vivre displayed and the faded background the unfinished earthen streets. A life full of richness and hope in a a land with not so easy politics.

Rouge, bleu, vert et or.

The artwork “Double V” show the growth of creativity and creation. The “double” is for “violet” and “vert” (french for “green”) but also the phonetic of “w”, which sends back to the idea of symmetry and geometry.

The artwork “Formation cristalline” (“crystalline formation”) tells about creativity and how art starts from mere ideas, represented by mushrooms, to full artworks, embodied by crystals.

Artist Statement

Life fascinates me.
Textures and patterns excite me.
Sculpting makes me happy.
Destructive human activities push me into despair.
Emotions drive me insane.
Creating art balances everything out.

La vie me fascine.
Les textures et motifs m’exaltent.
Sculpter me rend heureuse.
Les activités humaines destructrices me désespèrent.
Les émotions me rendent folle.
L’art m’équilibre.

My work is an ode to life, where plants and fungi meet insects, animals and minerals.
These encounters are growing in a colorful swirl of diversity, and the erratic growth develops on found objects, in a dialogue between humanity and nature.
Both are linked and it makes no sense to create an artificial barrier of tar between humans and the mud. By destroying our environment, we are destroying ourselves.
The objects are always thrifted and often trash, the most direct and visible impact of human activities on our planet.
The plants observe us, waiting to see if we will manage the environmental crisis we have created.
Yet, science, art and abstract thinking make human life worth saving. So it’s up to us to find an equilibrium between our activities, and our desire to thrive intellectually and culturally, without completely destroying our very home.

Happy Bugs / Insectes Joyeux

Backlash, Artwork 2016

“Backlash” tells the cycle of creativity. How ideas form and crystallize and how after an artwork, you fall into a pit of depression, that is crucial for your to charge your batteries and water the ground for new ideas to form.

Symbiosis

The visual symbiosis between fauna and flora represents the actual symbiosis among different life forms in nature, but it is also a reminder that everything is linked on an atomical level. We are all made from the same atoms and molecules.
More simply, it is also good humour, a smile, a laugh, so vital to life.

Symbiosis

Symbiosis tells the tale of fauna meeting flora.
Each sculpture as a specific elvish name that tells a bit of herself.
They visual show the existing balance of nature.
A balance that we humans have lost.

Abstraktion

Abstraction

As far as I remember, I’ve always been drawn to abstract art. Kandinsky still being one of my very favorites. But a lot of street art and more contemporary artists are incredible too. However, making a list would be an impossible task.
After having sculpted hyperrealistic miniature food for 8 years, I very much need some artistic freedom.

I love the free flow of shapes and colors and the visual impact it has on me.

So for 2016, I’m going to challenge myself to daily abstract painting and will post my progress on this dedicated tumblr blog.

Daily Mini Veggie Challenge

The Environmental Impact of Meat
“Heavy Meat”
Meat has more impact on the environment than vegetables or grains.

In 2015, for 233 days, I have sculpted one different fruit or vegetable every day.
This challenge had the goal to show the incredible variety of comestible plants, while talking about the environmental impact of the meat production, and thus to encourage people to eat less animal products.
I sculpted each miniature, then photographed it and published it on
http://dailyminiveggie.tumblr.com/
During this year, I also created topical compositions to talk about the environment and respect, in the style of Arcimboldo.

http://dailyminiveggie.tumblr.com/

Miniature Food

I have sculpted miniature food professionally for dollhouse collectors from 2009 to 2016.
Through these, I have learned to sculpt and master my current medium of choice : polymer clay.

FAQ, Conditions of Use

FAQ (english) | FAQ (français) | FAQ (deutsch)

Hello there!
Welcome to the shop policy / FAQ / Stuff you need to know if you want to buy something.
Here you should find all answers to your most pressing questions about my work. HOWEVER, if there’s something you are still wondering about, just shoot me an e-mail and I’ll answer within 2 working days tops, most of the time in a couple of hours.
You can use the contact form or send me an e-mail at sk@petitplat.fr

WHO IS BEHIND THE SCENES?

I (Stéphanie Kilgast), sculpt everything myself. That includes each step from the sculpting to the assembling. I also prepare the orders and answer e-mails.

WHAT ARE THE MATERIALS?

Materials and medium are always stated in each description. The medium I use the most is polymer clay and I use the brands Fimo and Cernit. Sadly they don’t pay me for saying that, but take it from me, these are good brands.
The jewelry is mounted on different types of materials. I use titanium for the earrings studs, which is THE best material out there if you have sensitive skin. For the dangle earrings I use sterling silver or brass, because it looks nicer.
I’m happy to change the metal findings to something you like better, if that’s the case, just get in touch with me.

CUSTOM ORDERS

If you wish an artwork specifically made for you, please contact me.

PAYMENT

• France : Paypal, Bank Transfer or Check
• European Union : Paypal or Bank Transfer
• Rest of the World : Paypal only

If there is no response within 7 days, the order will be canceled for lack of payment.
If you need more time, just let me know.
I’m also happy to accept orders in several times over a few weeks or months, through a weekly or monthly paying plan and put the artwork you are interested aside.

SHIPPING

Shipping is free!!! Wooot!
I use the basic french postal service, which is tracked and insured.
However I am happy to upgrade the shipping to fedex or similar if you need the artwork to  arrive faster. Just get in touch with me and I’ll calculate how much more it will be.

Processing times

I process and ship everything myself, and manage incoming orders as quickly as I can, but it can take up to 1 week.

Estimated shipping delivery times

North and South America : 7 -15 days up to 5 weeks
Asia, Australia : 10 – 20 Days up to 6 weeks
Europe: 3 – 10 days up to 3 weeks
France: 1 – 3 days up to 2 weeks

REFUNDS AND EXCHANGES

Whatever happens, always contact me first.
If something arrives broken to you, contact me with a picture of the broken object.
I will ask you to return the broken object and will make you a new one.
If you’re disappointed with your purchase, you can either exchange it or get a refund.
I accept returns within 14 days after reception of your order.
The return shipping costs are at your own charge.
I do not accept returns on customized items or items on sale.

Return your item(s) unworn, unused and in the original packaging.
I will refund the price for the items and the shipping upon receipt of the items.

BIO

Self-portrait, April 2017

Inspired by natural forms, Stéphanie Kilgast’s artwork is an ode to nature and its current biodiversity. She grows colorful organic sculptures on human-made objects, celebrating the beauty of nature in a dialogue with humanity, questioning the lost balance between human activities and nature.

She built her reputation and her sculpting skills around hyperrealistic miniature food sculptures. Her work has been exhibited in America, Asia and Europe.

In 2015, she worked on her « daily veggie challenge », an artistic project where she sculpted a different miniature vegetable or fruit every day to present the vast quantity of edible plants, while encouraging to reduce our meat and animal products intake for environmental reasons.

I also cover foods for weddings and birthday to round up the book into a fun package of different tutorials that is sure to keep you occupied for a while.

I also have a youtube channel with a lot of speed sculpting and speed painting videos.
Many videos share my process, but I also do occasional vlogs and give insights into my life as an artist.
