Color Me!

Color Me! Whale Oil Extraction Ink Drawing, Stephanie Kilgast, 2020
Color Me! Whale Oil Extraction Ink Drawing, Stephanie Kilgast, 2020

Hello everyone!

In face of the covid-19 pandemic, many countries are currently on lockdown.
In face of these uncertain and stressful times, and like many other artists, I decided to offer a coloring page to lift your spirits.

Whatever your situation, I sincerely hope you and your loved ones are alright.

This drawing is inspired by the place I worked in when I was in London for a little less than two months (more on that in a future post!)
Trinity Buoy Wharf. I walked past this place every time I went to the studio.

I made two versions, one A4 and one A3.
You never know, maybe some of you are on the creative side and own an A3 printer!

I truly hope this little page will bring you some joy.

Hello 2020! Hello London!

"Improved Desktop", Ink and Colored Pencils on A0 paper, work in progress, Stephanie Kilgast
“Improved Desktop”, Ink and Colored Pencils on A0 paper, work in progress

It’s been a while I haven’t written on this blog!
Between instagram, my newsletter and patreon, I often don’t take the time to give some updates here. I also have been crazy busy these last weeks… months, actually!

First and foremost, I wish you a happy 2020! May it be a lovely year for you, filled with joy and tenderness and a dash of lemons, so you don’t get bored! Yeah, I know we’re already the 27th of January, but my mum always said you can give your best wishes up until the end of January. And mum’s are always right. ^^

I *just* finished the collaborative piece with The Dulk, “Borneo” which I am thrilled about!
It is most likely sold, we did this one for a collector, and he’ll decide once he sees the final pictures.
Other than that I have been working on a new polar bear sculpture for an upcoming show in Melbourne. (see below)

I also had to finish a series of tutorials for a client which took a bit of my time.

2020 is going to be quite exciting as I will be doing two art residencies, one in London and one in Brooklyn. I really need a change of air and pace and to be able to focus on my work solely, so I am really looking forward to those!

2020 promises also some exceptional group shows in qualitative art galleries, which I am very excited about! More details below!

Re-Forestation

Reforestation (logging machine) 2019, Stephanie Kilgast
Reforestation (logging machine) 2019, Stephanie Kilgast

Most forests are being cut down these days for agriculture, so our food systems are currently destroying our eco systems.
But what if we had a different way of growing food that would need forests?
This is the goal of permaculture, also known as agroforestry.

To make it real short, the idea of it is to imitate the forest and create a small eco system where you plant various crops together, that will help each other other out.

It is also the life mission of Trees for Future, who have been working on that for the last three decades with proven results.
I stumbled upon their work through a ceramist who was raising funds for them, and looked into their approach a little bit more. I also checked their association on charity navigator and after careful consideration, decided thew were truly a good association to work with.

So I created this painting of a logging machine, typically used for deforestation, that is being over grown with a colorful nature.

The painting is going to be auctioned here and I will donate 10% of the end price to trees.org
However, feel free to donate on your own. I really believe that this type of association can offer a real future to humanity.
