This sculpture is about anxiety and the feeling of breathlessness. It is about the difficulty of breathing and the sensation of suffocating. A spiraling growth of blue mushrooms is being strangled by metallic wire.
Part of the ongoing series “I Can”, where I systematically grow erratic and surrealistic natural shapes onto tin cans. The dialogue between each can and growth expresses a different emotion, mood or state of the mind. They are personal and talk about myself, putting into shape what I feel or go through. They are very intuitive work where I let my hands and the clay decide where to go after a rough sketch of the emotion I want to materialize.
